I had a chair but nobody used it then one day someone did and the screws pulled out of the floor. So i got rid of the chair and now that the chairs gone everyone wants to stand at the front of the boat when I am driving. Lots of complaints about nothing to hold onto. So this is what I added. 20" Seachoice stainless handle. Cost $20 used 2 - 2.5" bolts with 3 washers. The dash was 1.75" thick at this point.

Simple, effective, should stop the complaints.

I had a cuddy cabin that caused the same problem. Crew were always bumping into me at the wheel and once when we hit hard, they grabbed the wheel to hold on  I mounted very simular bar, solved the issue and made crew feel safer. I also found I placed another bar further down from the wheel and this made the crew give me even more elbow room as they gravitated towards the bars for hand holds. Maybe you could mount one going long ways towards the outter edge of the same area?
