Well, kinda...

To even things up, I found a 225 Yamaha on a 23 Parker DV. Y'all know, this is the lowly, underpowered, over-rated 225-4 motor on a heavy (5480# as tested) Parker 21 degree center console.

VS.

250 Suzuki on a Mako 232 center console (weighs 4700 #). Y'all know this one too...way more HP, bigger props, special lower unit, blah, blah, blah.

Top speed, Suzuki 46.5 MPH Yamaha 42.8 MPH
Noise @ top speed, YAMAHA 91 db Suzuki 93db
(note: every 3 db is TWICE as loud)
Time to plane, YAMAHA 4.88 sec Suzuki 5.29 sec
Perf @ 4000 rpm, Suzuki 29.3 MPH Yamaha 27.8 MPH
Noise @ 4000, Suzuki 85 db YAMAHA 82 db
(did I mention every 3 db is TWICE as loud)?
MPG @ 4000, Suzuki 2.9 MPG YAMAHA 3.35 MPG

Both tests done by their respective manufacturers.

Remember, the YAMAHA spotted the Suzuki 25 HP, 700#, and the Parker had FULL EISENGLASS up! You can set that 232 Mako inside a 23 Parker!

Only real test I have done is on a Maycraft. The commercial fisherman who owns my marina has the same boat as me with a Yammie F225. He is approx 4mph slower than my boat with a 225 Opti. He its about 38mph at wot while I hit 42mph. We dont get all technical or anything but while I cruise at 4000 at 28mph he cruises at the same speed a 4600rpms. I have no experience with a zuke :p

Good comparison, B-Faithful. Just as you, I have noticed how the "commercial" workboats have switched to Yamaha 4's.

Looks like those who make their living on the water require the economical operation and reliability of Yamaha over blazing WOT.

(got'cha!)

Fish, I gotta admit. He is a faitfhful yammie guy. His other boat, a 22' C-Hawk, is powered by a f115. He claims to have a ton of hours on it and it keeps on going. He was having some problems with f225 last year but I think it was water pump themastat related (no big deal). His engine is a lot quiter at idle than mine too. I just have a whole lot more motor than him 8)
