Took delivery of a new 2018 1801 and have been busy adding modifications: additional rod holders on leaning post, VHF radio, Shakespeare Quick Connect antenna, Motorguide GPS 80lb thrust 60 inch shaft trolling motor, 2 deep cycle batteries mounted in console, vented console for batteries, on board 3 bank MinnKota Precision charger (starter/trolling batteries), AC outlet on console for charger, fishing tool holder on console side grab rail, 2 cupholders (need coffee!), Console cover and leaning post cover, Dutton electric trailer winch. Most of my fishing is done in South Jersey in various locations since I trailer the boat. The boat will be towed to Carabelle FL for tarpon season and hopefully a few more road trips this summer. Most of my mods were based on great information that this site provides...this is a great resource!

Nice 1801! Post some pics of your mods. Interested to see what you did with the rod holders on the leaning post. Been thinking about doing something similar but I want to change them to be more vertical so that the rods don't encroach (as much) on the limited space back there.

Mr. Speeder here are some mod pics:
Taco mini nav lights to allow room for TM; TM and plug, Quick disconnect antenna..can unscrew antenna w/o disconnecting coax; console vented on each side for batteries venting, TM batteries in console; 3 bank charger and breaker with external AC plug; cupholders; flush mount VHF; 2 additional rod holders..you would have to get horizontal mounts to help. your room concern; tool holder; pedestal seat...great for casting support. And a cooler

Nice clean job on all your mods. I have owned an 1801 for many years and absolutely love it. I do not have the raised casting deck; just large open area in bow, but have wanted to install a removable casting chair very similar (if not identical) to yours. My question(s) if you wouldn't mind: 1) Where did you buy yours? 2) Did you mount using through deck bolts or screws? 3) How flush does the empty mount sit to the deck? 4) Did you have to drill/router a hole in your deck? (How large a hole?) 5) Would you do anything different in the install process of this pedestal chair?

I have also thought many times about putting on a TM, but I really like the storage available in the center console and I have the high bow rails which would need to be cut or removed to install. Super clean job on the TM install and batteries though!

Thanks and TIGHT LINES!

Nick

PS: ALSO: What is that plastic clip on the center console lower rail for? Looks like a "C" clamp (White plastic)?

Purchased Springfield threaded SS base along with pedestal/seat from Overtons. Used a hole saw 1 3/4 for base and through bolted (simple due to casting platform). Expoxied all holes and used 4200. I would not have done anything different. Base only sits about 1/16 inch above deck...no trip hazard at all. I place a #3 stopper in the base when the pedestal is not threaded in to keep any water out of the hatch. The white item in the grab rail is s clamp on starboard tool holder from Cuda marine. The 1801 fits my needs perfectly.

Can you post more pics specifically of the trolling motor setup, batteries, wiring, etc? Considering an 1801 and will need a trolling motor on it.

There are some pics above and also some under the topic "trolling motor on 23 cc dv". If you want specific pics just let me know. Keep in mind nav lights need to be relocated, vents added to console if that will be your battery placement, I ran power wire from console forward to fuel fill race and then up underside of gunnel, also will need ram support if you trailer. Tricky part is ensuring placement of trolling motor allows opening of anchor locker when motor is in stowed position. I have about 1/16 inch clearance....measured 10 times at least! I have a motorguide xi5 60 inch 24 volt...plenty of power. Minnkota is most popular but prior experience led me to choose motorguide...plus a wireless foot control is available...do not think minnkota offers that option. The foot control eliminates the need to fumble for the remote when casting,,,especially when fly fishing solo. Feel free to ask specific questions or pics.

Fantastic job on the mods, Inshore Fisher!
Would you provide me with the name of the cup holders you used? Also, does your TM connect with your GPS unit?
Thanks!
