Dude
anything for the kids bro.
I have dodged many bullets along the way.
If I can help out wherever possible I am there.

Kevin,

I am at 4 miles, so a long way to go. I am also training twice a week with my son and a trainer..... and I am finding it hard to keep up with him. We do things like push ups, medicine ball sit ups, planks, chinups, dips, jump rope.... It is hard. I mean it. But its keeping me off the smokes.

Hardest thing I have ever done I think.... (or am doing....its a WIP).

But eventually I will get thinner, and in shape. I have seen pics of you on this forum; a mick, with all the beer, and no gut! Impressive Captain!

By the way in the next two weeks or so I will order some crap for my Parker brethren. Thank you my brothers. Karma is sweet!

Sal,

My nephew Sean has NF. My wife and I put many dollars towards this most worthy cause. We will be at the TABLE FOR TEN fundraiser that's coming up. Will you be there? Be nice to meet you.

Ok, Race this weekend!

I need to tell you how very humbled Caroline and I are. We had set a fundraising goal for $20,000 to be raised explicitly for Neurofibromatosis research, and as of this writing we are at $19,515! I know full well that we will meet our goal, and then some. Quite frankly this guy named Guiseppe Franco owes me some scratch, and at a minimum I will have him get us to our stated goal. Hehehehe.....

Well here is where we stand. Caroline will finish this race. Easily. She rocks. Actually I stand a decent chance in finishing the 13.1 miles as well, based on this past Sunday's training run, where I ran 10 miles through the hilly country roads around Chatham at 7:00am. It was a great feeling! I actually ran with a boom box on my shoulders blasting the Theme from Rocky, and it definitely inspired me and my town. I wish to thank all the residents who opened their windows yelling and shaking their fists as I ran by with my music. It is nice to know one is loved, indeed. I couldn't hear what they all were saying, due to the boom box, but based on my lip reading, I am happy that they wanted me to "work-off" the training!

One last time, here is our fundraising website : http://www.active.com/donate/nflasvegas2007/Arnuk

You all have been so generous, and I hate to even suggest that you forward this to friends of yours who might be receptive, but.... heck, why not! :)

After this weekend, I will attach a picture from our Las Vegas Marathon race, and hopefully it won't be one of me running with a bucket of KFC!

Again thank you all, and God bless you!

An update for my generous friends and Parker Brethren!

Ok. It is over! We just got back from our December 2nd 2007 Vegas Marathon run (Caroline and I ran the Half-Marathon). I want to thank all of you for your incredible generosity; Children's Tumour Foundation was hoping that we would raise $20,000 in total as a group, and we raised $53,000! Our TeamArnuk alone raised almost $22,000, thanks to all of you. I don't frequently get misty-eyed, but I did twice this weekend: first at the Neurofibromatosis dinner Saturday night, after seeing how much was raised and hearing some personal and inspirational NF stories from our new friends, and second when the finish line came into view at the race, and I realized I was going to finish running after all.

We arrived on Friday afternoon, and while Caroline took a nap in the room, I proceeded to make my first donation to the BlackJack Gods. The dealer was evil incarnate. At one point several of us on the table had big, interesting hands, with split eights, then elevens, a doubledown or two, totalling twenty, big money on the table versus the dealer's six, and we watched her roll 3, 4, 2, and another 6. Twenty one. She scooped our chips while speaking backwards in Latin. Her head spun around. I yelled "The Power of Christ Compels You" while I doused her with Holy Water from my drink ( ok it was Holy Bloody Mary, and I am sorry it stained). The pit boss came over and felt sorry for me, with his dealer being evil and all, and I appreciate the nice way he walked me to the lobby. It definitely is not easy finding your around a casino floor after all. I found another guy who the casino screwed too , by the way, and we had an awesome afternoon hanging out together:

On Saturday, Caroline and I relaxed with her sister Jane and her husband, Charlie, as well as with her Aunt Sharon (who ran the race with us), her husband Ned, and her cousin Kate. It was nice to get our minds off the race by all collectively making fun of Caroline's father, Don. It seems this happens whenever Caroline's family gets together. Some families hug and kiss when they greet. Her family shreiks and shares Dumb Don stories ! Anyway we actually had fun walking through the Forum Shops at Ceasars, where Caroline's wonderful famiy insisted on stopping to watch the Statue Show, where these Mannequin Statues move up and down in the middle of some mist and fire while an incredibly well-written soundtrack and script plays in the background (I remember the dude was saying he is great because he is Fire, and the chic said she was great because she was Water, and then the dude again said that, no, he was great because he was fire, and the chic again said, no, she was great because she was Water). We took pictures. We all felt the compelling need to start speaking Japanese as well, but we quickly moved on. I was thrilled to be among them all. Really. Can't wait to see them all again soon. Really.

I do want to get sappy for a minute before I move on to the actual race. The NF pasta dinner Saturday night was wonderful. Planet Hollywood donated their upstairs, as well as put out a great buffet for us. Wendy Levine, the marathon coordinator, was a wonderful hostess who brought us all together. We met new friends, and heard so many stories of amazing familes and their precious young ones with NF. I watched one mother, and her mom, talk about her son Jake, who died at age eight 9 months ago from Leukemia brought on by his NF. Caroline and I spoke to her more privately afterwards, and we cried with her as she showed us her tatoo of Jake on her arm. She wears her son's memory eternally, and she and her mom go from race to race carrying his memory. I hope they find healing, and that he smiles on them every day from heaven. We also listened as another family detailed their daughter Kylie's specific case, and how NEW TREATMENT has shrunk the plexiform tumor in her head. Of course we met little Kylie, and we all smiled and realized that what we all were doing there was having real impact on people close to us. What a dinner.

Back at our hotel Saturday night, we retired early and put our rooms service order in for 3AM, as an old fat guy like me needs his coffee early if he is to be prepared errrr... uhhh... properly for his 6am race. Caroline is cringing as I type this. (Sorry honey, I speak the truth always, as you know. And we are so lucky that I only lost $150 dollars at the tables during my three blackjack stints. By the way you are beautiful.... did you know that? I loved your stylish shoes, and how chic you looked all weekend!)

Sunday Morning. (2001 Odyssey theme music inserted here). Caroline and I met the other NF runners in the lobby of Luxor,

http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... tstart.jpg

and we walked over to the starting line together through Mandalay Bay. At 5:30am thousands of health conscious marathon runners were walking through a casino filled with thousands of HeShe's, chic women, Mod-men, Studs, Babes, Drunks, and some dude who was like 55 with tight pants, a pony tale, and a "package" most men would trade for.
A surreal and dichotimous image. Clash of The Titans like. I told the other I'd meet up with them at the start and hung a bit to party.

OK. At the start. You like my stylish outfit? http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... mready.jpg
Is my wife radiant to you? http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... sready.jpg
I do love her so. Hey Lina! WTF! You are not waiting for me? http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... emile2.jpg

Fine. Be that way. I don't need you. Besides this race has much to keep me happy. First of all.... it is Sunday morning. And what better way to start a Sunday morning than a nice run, some church, and some Burger King! http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... djesus.jpg

The only problem with Burger King is that the nuggets are better at McDonalds. Oh Wait... is that a Mickey D's ahead! Yee Haaaaaaaaaa! Nuggets! http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... ickeyd.jpg

My belly satisfied, I continued running. Who needs Caroline after all. I found this great place where the people are friendly and wholesome. http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... garden.jpg

Truthfully the only problem with that place is you smell like perfum when you leave. But a nice run into the wind cures that! She will never know HAHAHAA! Besides I can always sweet talk my way out of the whole with a little romance..... It is Vegas after all.... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... edding.jpg Caroline is a sucker for romance after all!

Well, I caught up to my cut-throat wife as she was hanging with her new NF girlfriends.... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... emile6.jpg

She said I smelled like stripper perfum, and she was not happy.... her face showed it all too well... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... ofpain.jpg

She pulled ahead again, and I was on my own and hungry once more. Viva La Mexico! Tacos! http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... anfood.jpg Very cool place indeed.

I met a couple of real well dressed guys in shiny suits who were originally there from Jersey. They were looking for investors for their two businesses. One was a BailBonds place http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... lbonds.jpg where they told me the cash flow is great, and the second is real estate billboards http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... houses.jpg

Heck we needed to diversify anyways.... "And that's all I'm gonna say about that"..... A Little More Conversation, A Little More Action Baby.... Nothing like quite as touching as an Elvis running with his daughter ... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... relvis.jpg

Except maybe Ten Elvises. http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... lvises.jpg

They were slow as heck so I passed their fat Arses as only a man like me can..... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... sfront.jpg

And this next picture shows that no matter where one is, he/she can always seek out and find that which is important to them.... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... nvegas.jpg

BOATS!

Also, no matter where we are, and how hurt we feel, and how divided we feel (remember.... my cut-throat wife who ran ahead of me?) ......,
If we look hard enough we can find the message from above that inspres..... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... =unite.jpg

It was now mile 11 of our 13.1 mile adventure, and I will be honest. I hurt. I hurt so bad in my knees and calves that I could not run over a 4 inch curb. I am not kidding here. I ran an extra 30 yards to run around a turn because I could not jump a 4 inch curb. But I was getting close, and I could feel it.... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... letogo.jpg

Getting closer.... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... gclose.jpg

Wait... I thought I passed these guys!!!!$$##$#$#$# http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... finish.jpg

And what should my shoulder-dropped, hobbling, slow big yellow fat frame see ahead of me??????? http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... shline.jpg

The cut-throat one finished six minutes ahead of me, so she was there waiting for me with a hug ... http://s123.photobucket.com/albums/o295 ... finish.jpg

Bless her heart!

We both ran the whole way. Very Very coooooooool. I will do this again, but will make sure I drop 15 or 20 pounds first, as this half marathon was hard on my legs. Caroline is in great shape and was ready to party afterwards, but I needed to move slow. Which I did. And now I am home. And I hope you enjoy this synopsis. I am typing it as CutThroat is home readying a nice dinner for us. Oh sorry honey! You have a new nickname! I hope you like it!
