new battery location

I am relocating one of my batteries to the starboard quarter. I was planning on bolting a short piece of 2x4 to the transom and the opposite side for shelf, but if there are better ways of doing this I am open to any ideas. Also, the only cable I will need to increase in length goes from the positive post to my battery selector switch (located on the port side). I will need to increase the length by 2-3 feet; will I need to get a larger size cable for an additional 2-3 feet?

No...Just build a new cable in the same gauge. You will be fine.
