My sons, Joey and Marc, and I were cruising on Delilah out of the Pungo River onto the Pamlico sound at 6AM on Saturday when we spotted some tremendous activity further out. Dolphins or rays? No fins showing. Tarpon? Nope. As we moved in quietly we saw the new penny copper of old reds as they slashed baitfish on the surface. Some were actually getting some air! So we pulled out some light weight but very strong rods rigged woith 30 lb braid, 60 pound mono shock leaders and some ginormous surface poppers that I had on the boat, just in case of such a scenario. Within about 2 minutes both boys were hooked up. It took about 15 min to bring these fish to the boat. We took a few quick pics, revived the fish in the water, and they swam away in good health. Topwater just doesn't get any better. Right place at the right time!

Awesome job! Nothing better than old drum on popping corks. Fish are showing up early this year. Heard reports of them already at Cedar in early June. Going in two weeks - can't wait!

The fish are a nice bonus. My kids are bit older than yours and they still go fishin with me too. That's the special part, as I'm sure you know...Good job !!!!!!
