Last week my wife and I visited beautiful Beaufort NC to visit the Parker factory and maybe get a glimpse of our new 2320SC due for delivery this month. Beaufort is a verrrry quiet place during the off-season and driving to the factory you are pretty sure you're approaching the edge of the earth where you drop of into oblivion - but there it is - the birthplace of our boats.
Robin Parker met us at the front desk and gave us a very informative walk-through of the plant. Not sure how much we didn't see - our tour started with hulls out of the mold and no sighting of the 34 footer, but it was awesome being surrounded by boats and pieces of boats in various stages of completion. I was impressed with the effort put into encapsulating all wooden components in glass and resin. You get a sense of the attention to detail that goes into these boats throughout the building process.
Robin is very personable and knowledgeable about each phase of the process. Unfortunately, she was unable to single our new boat out of the herd that surrounded us, but that's OK. And we got free hats!
Ate dinner that night at the Sanitary Restaurant on the Beaufort waterfront.
I have posted some pictures at http://picasaweb.google.com/andertonm/ParkerFactoryTour
Not as sharp as I would like, but I was trying to keep up with the tour guide and snap at the same time.
