Time has come to rework my radar tower.

Got a new HD Garmin Dome going on, air horn and paint job to clean up the chipping paint.

Anyone interested in the Furuno?? I'm just upgrading.

Modification of the mounting plate to flow with the lines of the new Garmin HD.

A little Toy I bought on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190495335311?ss ... 1439.l2649

Took a chance, maybe overpaid but the quality of the horn is pretty good, compressor is a little hokey but not bad, I'll mount that inside the helm and run the airline up through.

It will be nice to get the horns off the pilot house and up onto the tower.

Right now the whole thing is out for paint, should have it back in a few days. Will post pics when I get it.

It's alum.....Right? Blast it, Prime with Awlgrip 545 and paint with Awlgrip.

I could but, I gave it to a buddy of mine who runs a bridge painting company. They will blast it, except it will be covered with mil spec epoxy primer and a commercial type Awlgrip.

Should be drying as I type this.

I also over sized all the mounting holes to receive nylon bushings which will isolate the SS from the aluminum. You can see it in this pic.

Paint job should last a long time.

Good deal. The bushings will help...I see you have a blast cabinet yourself. :)

I do like the way you did the horn on the Radar mount.

Looks super

Why is it hinged?

I have a bridge to go under on the way out from my dock.

Never looked into powder coating, have a friend in the industrial paint world.

I have places that are blistering where Powdercoating was done. Where I used Deft Epoxy primer and topcoated with Awlgrip I have no problems.

Powdercoating is not the super magic coating that some think.

The Deft Epoxy Primer I speak of is used by the military. It is Deft 44GN24.

It was used here in Pensacola to coat the landing gear on military fighter aircraft. Once the surface is abated [sandblasted] it is some of the most tenacious stuff I have seen. It's Dark Green ,almost Black.

It thins with Distilled Water, but you better have Laq. thinner to clean the gun. I have seen the heat of a Tig torch laid to a surface that was primed. All it will do is discolor it. No peeling or flaking.

Looks great Bryan. Be sure to let us know how that new air horn works out. I have been debating on getting a new horn myself.

Well, its all one color now. 8) 8) 8)

Reassembly after the holidays.
