I think the lens being a medium telephoto compresses the image distance and give the effect. It was flat-a-calm that day ...
 
Sorry to abet the derailing but maybe if Parker is following along they might want to put together a collection point for neat photos and maybe use them somehow.......

With all this new technology you can get some amazing images.

Thanks for posting the info. Interesting lens choice for sure. Sort of a variation on the the old photojournalists advice of "F8 and be there" .
