Thanks to Dave (Porkchunker), DaleH and BradV for all of your advice and guideance; I would have never attempted the repair withuout your help. Thanks to all of you.

I forgot to take before and after shots of the repair so I could post. The repair is invisible and it turnout better than I had anticipated. You guys and this site are awesome!!!!!! :)

Is there a DIY for this? I have a small gel chip I'd like to repair, and I'd like to try it myself.

hakr, here is a linkto a post that porkchunker did concerning gelcoat repairs. I followed it strep by step and my repairs came out awesome. Porkchunker did a great job on his gelcoat repair primer. The thread is called "Gelcoat Repair A to Z just in case the link doesn't work. Good luck, take you time and you will do well.
