So i picked up my 2120 a month ago and was only able to test it once. On the way home from the harbor I lost a bearing buddy and smoked the hub on the front axle. This sucks. I was going to have a local tire shop fix it for me but they took for ever to fix it and when I went to pick it up the hub broke away from itself and the axle. I used a wrachet strap to hold it together and drove it home 8 miles. I ordered the parts through Pacific trailers which happens to be the make of the trailer and they had great customer service and shipped me all the parts needed. I actually had to order a new front axle, which they build in their shop to order. Now I can actually get the boat to the Yamaha technition to check out the motor. Also found out the guy before me proped the boat with the wrong prop so hopefully that fixes my speed issues.

You show a bunch of pix's, but not enough or the right angle to tell the Whole story.

The new axle..........Is it a dropped axle like the original?

I do see the new axle has Posi-Lube spindles..... That's a good thing. :)

Can't tell if the old one has Posi Lube spindles or Bearing buddies?

But your failure looks like Bearing Buddies...[I hate Bearing buddies] The grease never got to the inner bearing and it failed.

Use the "Green Grease"......Keep pumping in until the grease comes out the hub cap.

The zerk fitting doesn't screw in the end of the spindle....It's a hammer in style.

If you have bearing Buddy caps.....THROW THEM away! Do not install them on the new axle.... You wouldn't believe how many people do that.

You didn't smoke the axle because you lost the Bearing Buddy - you lost the Bearing Buddy because you smoked the axle. I've driven hundreds of miles including splashing and retrieving with a missing Bearing Buddy and had no issues with the bearings. The Bearing Buddy comes off because the bearing is failing and heats up. The hot hub expands and/or wobbles throwing off the Bearing Buddy. The heat thins the grease until it runs out. The bearing continues to heat until the grease cooks out altogether and the bearing gets toasted and disintegrates. Then we blame the dry spindle on the missing Bearing Buddy?

The Bearing Buddy IS regularly at fault because we think that pumping grease in on every trip is the right thing to do, but in reality it can do more harm than good. Grease is not consumed so continuous pumping is not necessary. By pumping grease we never look at the bearing - it can fail for reasons other than lack of grease and merrily pumping will only mask the problem. Also, if a little water does get into the hub, continuous pumping can move that water to the bearings, not too mention moving grease out the rear seal into the brakes. And thinking that you don't need to repack a bearing after disassembly because you have Bearing Buddies and can fill it from the cap is ludicrous.

Yep.... That's True if you "Have" Bearing Buddies.

This is why I'm so adamant about teaching the difference between Bearing buddies and Posi Lube system.

You CAN keep pumping Grease in IF you have Posi Lube spindles. It will not blow the seals. It will displace old grease and any contaminants such as dirt and water. In fact you can put the bearings and hub assy together dry on the spindle, then start pumping in grease while turning the hub. Keep pumping till it comes out the hub cap.

It acts just like a bearing packer. :)
