Trip #2 - 2008

left shinnecock 1230pm sat. ran 70NM south to the dip. set up on troll at 330. pulled hook on a white marlin shortly after. no other fish before dark. set up 12 miles sout of the dip for the night. got 2 65#YF on live squid. at about 330am a school of LARGE mahi showed up. Jumped in and shot about 8. largest being a 34# bull that took me for a RIDE.

got another 80# YF on the troll in the AM.

nice trip. better weather.

I've had to go over the side in the canyons 3 times in my life. All were during daylight to clear something in the props. Each time I was nervous and scrambled for the tuna door when I was done. To go over a night, while chunking, is pretty gutsy. Nice work.

i have a Riffe MT1 for inshore fish and a MT4 with breakaway float line for offshore. i used the MT1 on teh 34# mahi. probably should have opted for the big gun...
