Just like with my Parker, I took the skill saw and sawzall to the new downeast yesterday.
He are a few pics of the before, I waiting for the after pics to be emailed to me (they were taken on my buddies camera)
Cut the stb side open 6ft w X 44 in high, the door will hinge in and up against the roof.
We cut it out yesterday.
After the cut was done, cleaned up with a grinder then sanded with an da sander, took the router with a rabbiting bit, cleared out the balsa core material about an inch , then filled the void with hull & deck putty.
Going down today to do some more prep work to gel coat the edge.
Gonna trim out both the edge of the house and the door with stainless angle, that will both dress it up and stiffen/ reinforce it.

Dayum Ronnie..........is that where the new big screen TV is going

Jeez.....that is a big freakin hole.......I guess the SS trim will add enough support for the roof.? What will keep that area from getting wet........guess I need to see the master plan. 8)

Now there is an idea! :)

You have more guts than most Ronnie, but I guess that once you make that first cut, the rest just comes naturally.

Looking forward to the rest of the project photos!

wont cutting open a boat in that manner affect resale later on?
Did you inquire with the manufacturer on whether opening up will affect the structural integrity of the boat?
Just curious as I'm fairly new to boating.
I find myself not wanting to even drill holes into my new boat.

Yes, I talked with the builder.
Here is another one done the same way (by the builder)
and finished off kind of crude in my opinion compare to how I plan to finish mine !
As for the purpose, there are many!
I'll be fishing right at the helm while running the boat, just to name 1 !

That is exactly what I was thinking [fish from inside the pilot house]
can also let lots of air in to cool off.
Nice job!!!!

After a VERY long week and weekend of working on this project, I just about done with a few minor things to finish up !

Just curious as to why a side door (opening aft or sliding aft) replacing the forward starboard window (but taller and deeper) would not have satisfied your needs?...............Pete
