Yamaha has apparently redesigned the plastic popit. The new one has a mushroom on one end and a stem with a cross on the other end. I would think the stem would go into the spring (away from the engine). However, I've searched online and found some controversy over this including a schematic showing the mushroom end going into the spring.

Does anyone have a definitive confirmation on which way it goes? Thanks.

Post Note:
Didn't go out mackeral fishing today.

The old poppit has two cross hair stems on each side. One longer than the other one. Long end was in the engine. Short end in the spring. The new one looks like a mushroom, round on one end and the cross hair stem on the other. I just put the old one back for now because I had the boat shrink wrapped for the winter. I'll sort it out in the spring.

With the help of FishFactory, and a little searching, it appears the mushroom goes into the grommet in the block which makes sense as opposed to the schematic.
