I have been having problems with my depth finder for a few months and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on troubleshooting the problem. I have a 2007 Parker 2510 with a Raymarine C120 display and the DSM300 Digital Sounder. The transducer is an Airmar… not sure of the model. Last fall I got a tad too close to a boulder while chasing Albies and bumped the rock a bit. I raised the motors, backed out, and was on my way, but the depth finder was no longer working. Rather than a nice display of the bottom contour and the depth, I was getting a screen of digital garbage… lots of random dots moving in right to left fashion. The depth was sometimes displayed, other times not. When it was displayed, it was wrong… numbers from 7 to 6500 feet. I had assumed I had damaged the transducer and planned to wait until the boat was out of the water to survey the damage. Well, when the boat was out, there was no visible damage to either the transducer or the bottom. I probably had hit the lower housing of the motor. But the coincidence was disturbing. The marina looked at the transducer, actually removed it, and said it appears to be working. However, the boat needed to be in the water to fully diagnose it. Fast forward to the spring. The boat went in in May, the problem is still with me, and my marina hasn’t had a chance to look at it yet. Other than hiring an electronic specialist or moving to a new marina, I wondered if anyone had any ideas on what I could be looking at. I appreciate your help.

I'll start by saying I'm NOT a Raymarine fan...... BUT.

You neglected to say what type of X-Ducer? Transom mount? Thruhull?

I'm betting it's a transom mount and needs adjusting.

No, no signs of physical damage. The marina checked it out when the boat was hauled last fall. In fact, they removed it to see if they could see any damage and they could not. They re-installed it this spring and boat splashed. It lives on a mooring. Same symptoms as last fall.

My repair guy tells me the problem is with the DSM300. I've heard from others that the DSM300 has had some problems over the years. It is no longer sold by Raymarine. Anyone know of a replacement that is compatible with the C120 system?

I've also heard of a swap via Raymarine as it had a recall. Get the # off of it and call Raymarine. They set a guy I know a new or reconditioned one.

But since then [1st of the year] He dumped Raymarine.
