300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

Harpoon, sorry I did not reply to your question. I didn't see it until John bumped the thread. To answer your question, yes I am starting to get a slight sqeal at idle, more of a whistle, but only after a long run. I have noticed it a couple of times when I get back to the dock at the end of the...

Does anyone know the ram size?

I have had the S1000 on my 2520 for 1-1/2 years now and I have been very satisfied with it for what I use it for. Point A to point B and I can sit back and watch while the boat takes me there. It will follow a charted course or a compass heading better than I can. There are a couple of little...

    Easy hydraulic steering bleeding

My helm started doing the same thing and it turned out to be the check valves in the helm pump. It was an easy fix and I didn't lose much fluid when I removed the check valves for cleaning. The big slot headed screws on either side of the helm pump (behind the dash) house the check ball and...

    bottom line on prop selection

I have the same rig as you and when I had the 250 ox66 (I have repowered with a 300 Suzuki) I settled on the Mercury Enertia 16P. My rig is really heavy so you might be able to run the 17P.

    Hydraulic Steering Anomaly

That's normal for Seastar hydraulic steering systems and it is mentioned in the installation manual that comes with your system. I love my knob and wouldn't have a boat without one.

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

John, the fuel burn seems to drop about 1 gph per 100 rpm so if that holds true then the fuel burn at 4000 rpm would be right at 8 gph. I will try to check it at that speed my next trip. I have not asked other owners about it but I think it all depends on how much weight the motor is pushing...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

Well here is the update on my search for the best prop. I ran two Rev 4 props since my last post and I was disappointed in both of them. I ran a 17P and an 18P and neither one did as well as the Suzuki prop. The Rev 4s gave the boat a lot of bow lift until you got up into the higher speeds and...

2002 SX250 30" still for sale, pics added

Still for sale. 2002 Yamaha SX250 30 inch shaft. New factory power head, ran it 6 months. This is a great motor. I repowered with a 300 Suzuki for economy and more power. I have the Yamaha set up so I can run it for demo, compression check or whatever. Comes with two gauges, binnacle control...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

John, I think throttle setting has more to do with fuel burn than engine rpm's. If you are way over propped you will need more throttle to achieve the same rpm as a correctly propped motor. Here is a link to a post from Ken@propgods on THT site that is interesting. Read Ken2's post. It's about...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

I fished Saturday with a party of 5 and myself on the boat and it was one of the sloppiest days I have fished in a while. I don't think raising the motor did much if anything but it was really too rough to tell a whole lot since I could not trim out the boat for economy. I only averaged 1.2 nmpg...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

Raised the motor up 1 hole today. I'm gonna run the Suzuki 3X16X17 again tomorrow. Still waiting for the Rev 4.

    Saltwater Series 2 OX 66

I had the same problem with my old motor. Turned out one of the low pressure fuel pumps was bad and at full throttle the high pressure fuel pump would run out of fuel because the low pressure pumps could not keep up when running WOT or even a high cruise. The problem went away after changing the...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

John, I edited my post, it should have been 6 fishermen plus myself. The first day I ran the Mirage prop with only two of us in the boat I was impressed with the way it ran. When you convert the numbers from that day to statute miles, we were getting 2.2 mpg @4500 with a speed of 27 mph. That...

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

I just checked the prop slip @5000 and the Mirage prop was .29, the 17 Zuke was .10

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

One other thing to note. On an 80 mile trip, .3 mpg better saves me $65 counting the Yamalube I don't burn and which I bought in bulk @ $15 per gal. Most of my trips saw 1.1 mpg with my old motor.

300 Suzuki repower on a 2520 DV notch transom

John, my boat is really loaded down. With my old 250 OX66, the best I could hope for on a calm day with a full load was 1.3-1.4 nmpg. The #s I have gotten so far with the Suzuki have not been on slick water and I don't have the right prop on it yet. I'll keep you all posted as I go through the...
